It is my hope that this Website will serve as an adequate support in the coming months and beyond. It will work with a smart phone or home computer. All students are welcome to explore all the tabs and use any resources regardless of the class or grade level that they are targeted for. The MARCHING tab has music for the school fight song as well as music and recordings necessary for those students that would like to march in the Cherry Festival Parade. Additionally, incoming Freshman can check out the tab with IDEAS for next years marching band show. I will be using a tool called Flipgrid that allows students to submit video clips to me for review (more information on Flipgrid is attached below this letter).
I want you to know that I am praying for all of you and your families. Please pray for me as well that God will grant me the wisdom, patience and tech savvy necessary to guide us all forward. I miss seeing you each day and especially miss our rehearsals and making music together as a group. The time will come when we will be together again. Until that time--make good use of the time you have!

Flipgrid is a free, simple way to share short video-based clips between students and teachers. I am hopeful that this will be an effective tool to allow band students to submit short videos of themselves performing musical songs, excerpts, or exercises for review. I am optimistic that this format will allow us to stay connected and share continued learning experiences.

How playing an instrument benefits your brain
Practice Makes Permanent
- Practicing an instrument can be a great release from doing homework, household chores, or the boredom of confinement. It can be fun, relaxing, and a great distraction!
- At least 30 minutes of practice a day. This does not have to be all at once, especially for beginning musicians. 10 minute sessions 3 times a day if done properly can work just as well.
- Remember; Practice Does NOT Make Perfect!!! Practice makes permanent. A reminder to practice SMART. Do not rush or practice without focus or proper posture etc… poor practice only reinforces bad habits. Learning something wrong can be very difficult to undo. Follow the procedures and routines that we have established in class.
- ALL musicians should begin practice sessions with an appropriate warm up by holding notes long and concentrating on making the sound steady and consistent. Continue by reviewing additional notes for younger musicians and progressing to major/chromatic scales and note patterns for more advanced musicians.
- Practice with a metronome at a slow setting and gradually increase to the appropriate tempo. There are many free metronome apps that can be downloaded on a phone or computer.
- Practice intonation with a tuner (using a free tuning app that can be downloaded on a phone or computer) by playing notes with proper posture and a steady consistent sound. Play into the tuner (phone/computer App) while checking pitch tendencies (flat the note is to low) or (sharp the note is to high).
- Keep your instrument clean. Review the Guidelines for Instrument Sanitation and Maintenance and follow the outlined routines and procedures.
